THE WIDESPREAD SEX TRADE IN THAILAND PUTS INNOCENT CHILDREN AT RISK, EXPOSING THEM TO CHILD PORNOGRAPHY, ABUSE AND HIV/AIDS.
Thailand has had a seemingly stable political and economic climate until recently. They’ve experienced a fair share of political turmoil since 2005, plus disastrous flooding in 2011. The economy, which had seen steady growth and maintained the lowest levels of unemployment in the world, was slightly damaged but has already begun its recovery.
As part of the growing economy, Thailand’s large-scale sex industry puts innocent children in danger. Their lives are impacted on every level by child pornography, abuse and HIV/AIDS. The number of affected and needy children continues to grow due to refugees fleeing from poverty and social unrest in the bordering countries of Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar.

Our Thailand Director, Sammy, leads Learning Centers for Burmese refugees in Bilokee Village and Huay Malai, Thailand.Refugees have no social or political status in Thailand, and many walked across the border with few belongings to their name. At the Learning Centers, the refugee children are enrolled in Christian school and are provided with after-school tutoring, routine health check-ups and vocational support.Through academic and spiritual education these children are given hope that they might one day become a Thai citizen while always knowing they are first and foremost citizens in the Kingdom of heaven.

Sammy was raised in a Christian home, but it was age 21 when he began to have a deep relationship with the Lord. After his first university closed due to a democratic uprising, God blessed him with a scholarship to another University, where he earned a degree in Business Administration. Sammy began working for VisionTrust right after graduation and he is now our Thailand Director.
