Dear Friends of God’s Garden,
God has been working in His garden! He has been planting seeds, pruning bushes, and making way for new growth. The new partnership formed between VisionTrust and God’s Garden is an example of how God brings His family together to do more than we could do on our own.
I visited Ngundu in January and met with the Zimbabwe Director of God’s Garden, Davison Zhou. I spent many hours visiting with Davison and his wife – learning about their passion and ideas to serve the thousands of orphans living in their district. One day, he asked me to help him with the difficult task of verifying the information about the first 240 orphans to be sponsored. When the children came to meet us in the village, I was swarmed by nearly 600 orphaned children!
One by one, we verified each child’s information and photograph. One by one, I shook the hand of each orphan and looked into their eyes. A deep emotion of compassion grew in my heart. Each orphan seemed to transform from a nameless statistic to a beautiful child of God whose life has value and purpose.
Although I travel extensively and experience the effects of poverty on a regular basis, the sheer number of orphans in this village and their personal tragedies overwhelmed me. I am convinced that situations like these demand a response from the kingdom of God.
Psalm 82:3-4 tells us to, “Defend the cause of the weak and fatherless; maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed. Rescue the weak and needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.” I believe that God has brought together God’s Garden and VisionTrust to provide more opportunities for people like you to rescue these children and give them a future through discipleship, education and healthcare.
