Peru is a beautiful and diverse country in the western part of South America. Despite its natural beauty, many people find themselves in a downward spiral of poverty, alcohol, drug abuse, and violence. Ayacucho, Peru specifically suffers since the anti-government group, Sendaro Luminoso, claimed the city as its headquarters. The group’s drug trafficking and gang warfare leave many Ayacucho children orphaned or abandoned. Some even fall victim to human trafficking and illegal child labor. Without hope, parents or financial support, these children simply attempt to survive each day.

Hogar Casa Luz in Ayacucho, Peru is a safe haven for newborns to 12th graders. The staff provide children with meals, shelter, education and the love of Jesus Christ. Teenagers learn specific skills necessary to become responsible and successful adults. Numerous children have even been adopted from the home and in their new families they experience both love and stability.

Hope after being abandoned.

Maria Milagros was abandoned by her mother shortly after birth because of her severe medical issues. When the authorities found her mom they returned Maria and told the woman to go to counseling and keep the baby. Instead Maria was abandoned again, this time left on one of the main highways of the city where large trucks and buses pass heading for Lima.

It’s a miracle she is alive today.

After no other orphanage in Ayacucho would accept this precious baby due to her cleft lip and palate, the civil court gave her to VisionTrust’s Grace Home (Casa Luz). Our director immediately began looking for medical help as it was dangerous for Maria to eat or drink because of risks such as choking or drowning due to her cleft palate. At VisionTrust we began praying for a doctor and the money for surgery.

God answered our prayer less than a month later with an American medical team volunteering in Ayacucho. They fixed her palate and committed to coming back to complete the surgery on her lip. Both surgeries were done for free!

Thank you for partnering with us in caring for and loving children who need it the most.
