Can you imagine being denied basic opportunities just because you belong to a certain social caste? In India children in the lower classes, like the gypsy and Dalit, have little to no chance of getting an education or advancing in society. They struggle daily to overcome harsh discrimination and deep-rooted cultural barriers.

VisionTrust helps these lower classes in meeting basic physical and spiritual needs. By partnering with Director Merwin Joshua, VisionTrust runs 26 different Christian-based Learning Centers in India. The learning centers provide almost 2,000 children with school tuition, uniforms, supplies, food and an after-school program. These programs help children pass annual exams and begin integrating gypsies into society. However, the main goal of the program is to share the hope of Jesus Christ with these children and see them mature into Christian leaders within their community.

A Boy's Opportunity to Play

Jothi Raj’s passion for music and school has grown through difficult circumstances. He suffered through the great tsunami of 2004, the recent death of his father in 2009, and the daily grind of poverty.

Since joining VisionTrust’s Learning Center, Jothi and his whole family were baptized. With his new faith and the help of VisionTrust, he regularly achieves the highest grades and has developed a passion to play the electronic keyboard. Despite Jothi’s circumstances, he is motivated to serve the Lord with his life.

Amidst the backdrop of world issues like war, food shortages, and 145 million orphans, Jothi is a shining light of hope. He reminds us that each person, regardless of their level of education, economic status or social position, has been created for a purpose. He is a great example of how God uses VisionTrust to educate, provide health care and spiritual discipleship to thousands of children.
